What to Watch
In this week's Netflix selections, two best friends begin high school and encounter all of the challenge and new experiences you might expect to find while one of them battles cancer. Totally normal couple Joel and Sheila both work to prevent disaster as Sheila's cravings for living flesh continually threaten to rain havoc down upon their family. Finally, Brazilian investigators try to uncover deep corruption in the country's political and corporate spheres in a story loosely based on real events.
- Alexa & Katie - Season 1 - This family comedy follows the teenage exploits of two best friends, Alexa and Katie. With Katie by her side, Alexa knows that she can face anything, whether its her first day of high school or her ongoing battle with cancer.
- Santa Clarita Diet - Season 2 - Sheila and Joel were a fairly normal couple until the day that Sheila died and came back as something undead, with most of her personality still intact but with a craving for living flesh that grows increasingly...human. Season 2 picks up where the first left off, with Sheila continuing her attempts to cope with her new un-lifestyle, and Joel just trying to keep his head above water and his wife from eating the neighbors and rival realtors.
- The Mechanism - Season 1 - In this original series, loosely based on real events surrounding one of the biggest scandals in Brazilian history, investigators attempt to root out massive government and corporate corruption in a dangerous case that might just go all the way to the top of Brazilian politics.
Coming Attractions
As always, this week on Netflix sees a new set of original shows hit the service, beginning with the second season of A Series of Unfortunate Events, which follows the continuing misadventures of the Baudelaire children as they try to stay out of reach of the evil Count Olaf. A young woman joins her high school wrestling team in an effort to connect with her ex-con father in the original drama First Match. Finally, a soldier volunteers for a mission to Titan in hopes of saving humanity, only to find that the experiments needed to get him there are turning him into something other than human in The Titan.
- A Series of Unfortunate Events - Season 2 - The unfortunate misadventures of the Baudelaire orphans continues in the second season of this Netflix original adaptation, which covers the events of five of the books in the acclaimed young adult series, The Austere Academy, The Ersatz Elevator, The Vile Village, The Hostile Hospital, and The Carnivorous Carnival. Arrives March 30.
- First Match - A young woman, Monique, raised in foster homes, joins the boys wrestling team at her high school in an effort to reconnect with her ex-convict father, who starts encouraging her to use unconventional moves, and even fighting techniques, while in the ring. As she grows to love her sport, Monique begins to discover more of what she really wants out of life. Arrive March 30.
- The Titan - In this Netflix original sci-fi film, a group of soldiers undergo experiments to prepare them for a mission to Saturn's moon Titan in an effort to find a new home for humanity. But as the experiences continue, one soldier finds himself transforming into something beyond human as his wife fights to preserve the man that she loves. Arrives March 30.
