In this week's selection of films and shows on Amazon Prime, check out an adaptation of George Orwell's dystopian novel, 1984, which tells the story of a man named Winston who begins practicing subversive behavior within a totalitarian society. In Pierce Brosnan's first installment of the James Bond franchise, Bond must square off against a former MI6 agent who plans to attack the UK with an EMP weapons satellite. Finally, young adult novelist Mavis attempts to get back together with her high school sweetheart by luring him away from his wife and child.
- 1984 - In this adaptation of George Orwell's famous novel, Winston Smith lives a menial existence under the totalitarian government of Oceania. When he meets a mysterious and bold woman named Julia, Winston's life is turned around as he explores his subversive side while trying to hide from prying eyes of the Thought Police.
- Goldeneye - In Pierce Brosnan's first outing as James Bond, the British spy must confront a dangerous arms syndicate. Bond goes head to head with a former friend and fellow agent, who plans to use a pair of EMP-emitting weapons satellites in order to exact his revenge against the UK over the deaths of his parents. This is just one of several Bond films making their way to Amazon Prime this month.
- Young Adult - Mavis Gary, a young adult novelist and former prom queen, heads back to her hometown in an effort to win back her high school sweetheart, Buddy, after receiving what she thinks is a sign that they are supposed to be together. As she arrives back in town, she reconnects with friends from her high school days, and plots to lure Buddy away from his wife and newborn child.
Looking ahead
This week's new additions to Amazon's Prime Video lineup starts with Aftermath, the story of two men whose lives are changed forever by a devastating plane collision and which is based on actual events. You can also check out Power Rangers, in which five teenagers come into possession of mysterious coins that grant them superhuman powers, and who must team up to fight and evil that wants to dominate not only their world, but the universe as well. Finally, in November Criminals, a high schooler puts his future in jeopardy when he becomes determined to investigate the murder of his friend after the police dismiss his death as a gang killing.
- Aftermath - Following the devastating collision of two planes, two men, one who lost his whole family in the crash, and one an air traffic controller who holds himself responsible, each deal with the tragedy in their own way. Their paths ultimately collide in a violent confrontation that will have lasting consequences for them both. Arrives March 8.
- Power Rangers - When five teenagers find a set of special coins, they also discover that they have been gifted with superhuman abilities. After also finding an ancient, buried alien ship, the group is called on to become the Power Rangers, the latest in a line of protectors of the cosmos who must fight together to stop the evil Rita Repulsa from taking over the universe. Arrives March 9.
- November Criminals - After his friend is shot and killed in a local coffee shop, high schooler Addison Schacht takes the investigation into his own hands when it becomes clear that the police and his community are going to write off the murder as a gang killing. Along with his classmate, Phoebe, Addison digs to find the truth, with his life becoming increasingly dangerous as he gets closer to finding it. Arrives March 10.
