Best new and updated apps

This week, create a podcast right from your iPhone, track your to-dos in a beautiful new task manager from Moleskine, or power up your tasks with URL schemes and deep automation.

  • Anchor - Anchor is a great way to find and share audio, and now, the app is aiming to be a one-stop shop for creating and listening to podcasts, too. With its 3.0 update, Anchor makes it easy to record podcasts with up to 10 other people, no matter where they are. You can then use Anchor's tools to distribute your episodes across all major platforms, including Apple Podcasts, Google Play, and Spotify. Check out Anchor's analytics tools for breakdowns of how many people hear each segment and which parts of each episode are performing the best. You can head to Anchor's website to get more detailed analytics. - Free - Download Now
  • Moleskine Actions - With Actions, Moleskine is continuing its foray into beautifully designed productivity apps, this time with a task manager. Use the app to create action cards for your essential tasks, and use natural language that the app can then parse out into important details. Need to send a particular report on the same day every other Thursday? Just spell that out, and Actions will automatically schedule that task for every other week with the correct times. You can also use Siri to add tasks to Actions thanks to the app's built in Siri support. Actions is free to download and use with a seven-day free trial, after which you'll need to pay $1.99 per month or $11.99 per year for full access across all of your devices. - Free - Download Now
  • Things - Things 3 has received a major update this week across iPhone, iPad, and Mac, introducing new features for power users, including linking, automation, and Handover. Things now supports a particular URL scheme that lets you quickly open a things list or task from another app. These links support automation from outside apps. This lets you use apps like Workflow or Launch Center Pro to automate your common workflows in Things with just a button press. Handover, meanwhile lets you move data from an app into Things. For instance, the mind mapping app MindNode lets you transform your brainstorm into a completely organized Things project, complete with titles and individual tasks. - $9.99 (iPhone) - Download Now
  • Circa - Circa is a video-focused news app that delivers a news feed tailor-made for you. Name some of your favorite topics like technology or politics, and Circa will show you stories in those areas. You can further refine your interests laters. As you watch or read each story, you can even add the topic tags from that story to your areas of interest so more stories like it show up in your feed. - Free - Download Now
  • Homey - Teach your kids about money by having them complete chores and work towards goals. Assign different chores to your children, and help them set saving goals for allowances. Are they saving up for a new bike, or maybe just looking to save a certain amount? Add that goal to the app, and watch as they make their way towards each goal in daily and weekly progress meters.
