How to complete Apple Watch activity challenges in 2018
From January 1, 2018, close your Apple Watch rings every day for seven days in a row to unlock Apple's 'Ring in the New Year' badge!
Apple's "Ring in the New Year Challenge" activity challenge is back, but with some subtle changes for 2018.
The goal is still to close your activity rings — stand, move, and workout — for the first week of the year. Instead of just Monday to Friday, though, it's any seven days in a row, starting Monday, January 1.
The badge went live on December 28, 2017, and a push notification went out on December 21, 2017. As of January 1, the challenge is live and yours to achieve!
To help you jumpstart your ring closing, here are some of the things you can do to get yourself up and moving.
Go for a fall photo walk (with or without puppers)
In many areas of the world, there's still time for some autumnal fun (or spring nature flings, if you're in the southern hemisphere). That means it's the perfect time to explore the great outdoors in your neighborhood: Grab a friend (or a doggie pal) and take a 5K photo walk, snapping as you go. If you live near a large park or preserve, all the better.
Just remember, for walk, run, or wheel workouts to count, you have to keep up the pace. So go brisk and, when you want to shoot, pause the workout, snap, snap, snap away, then hustle to the next spot.
Trail skating is in
Okay, so Apple doesn't officially have a skating option in the Workout app, but you can fake it by logging a running workout while you go roller skating, blading, or skateboarding on your town's paved bike path or trail.
Run, run, run away
Whether you're running in the gym, on the streets, along the coast, or in a park, a run or wheelchair workout is a great way to get your badge. You may not look as cool as the runners in Apple's recent Watch ad, but what's stopping you from feeling that way on the inside?
Play Pokémon Go
The Pokémon Go Watch app will in fact log a walking workout on your Apple Watch, so you can theoretically go for a lengthy walk and help hatch your eggs, too. Grab a Pokemon Go Plus and you can click to catch and spin as you go!
There's even an event on right now, with Gen 3 water types, Delibird, Santa Hat Pikachu, and more to discover — if you're out and about!
